Nurses Notes

Dear Parents:

Over the past few weeks we have seen increasing numbers of sick children at Colonial Park School.  Many children are complaining of feeling sick within the first hour of the school day.  Some report having taken medication before school for symptoms such as fever, sore throat, or headache.  While Tylenol or Motrin might temporarily relieve such symptoms, they are not a cure.  A fever which persists for more than two to three days requires medical attention to rule out infection (such as strep) which can have serious complications.  If your child experiences sore throat, fever, headache and/or stomachache please contact your pediatrician as a diagnostic throat culture may be necessary.  If he/she has a confirmed case of strep, please notify the school nurse.

A child who is ill with fever or vomiting at night should not be sent to school the following morning. Allowing the child sufficient time to recuperate at home will help prevent prolonged illness and limit the spread of infection in school.

Any questions or concerns regarding this matter may be directed to the school nurse at (781) 279-3865.

                                                                            Sincerely,
